Organic Sunscreen – Face the Sun with Confidence

Posted

With the increasing incidence of skin cancer due the harsh UVA and UVB rays of the sun, wearing sunscreen while venturing outdoors has become imperative.
Over exposure to the harmful rays of the sun can also accelerate the skin ageing process. Sunscreen protects the skin from the suns dangerous rays, by forming a protective layer over the skin. Sunscreens can be categorized as commercially produced and organic sunscreens.
Organic sunscreens offer the same level of protection, that store brought sunscreens provide to the skin. The reason why more and more people are opting for organic sunscreens is because it is prepared with natural ingredients. Organic sunscreens contain a complex blend of organic molecules which combine together and offer protection from the sun.
However the word organic should not be mistaken for the sunscreen being prepared naturally. On the other hand the term organic in this context means that there are many natural ingredients like jojoba oil, coconut oil, shea butter, aloe vera, carrot seed oil, apple extract and green tea extracts which protects the skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
Along with these natural ingredients, organic sunscreens also contain essential minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. The other active ingredients which are present in organic sunscreens are xanthan gum, tocopheryl acetate, retinyl palmitate and glycerin. Besides providing protection from the sun, some of the natural ingredients contained in the organic sunscreen can restore the skin’s PH value and can even keep the skin soft and supple.
Available in either lotion or cream form, organic sunscreens contain ingredients that are quickly absorbed by the skin and which are non-allergenic in nature. Organic sunscreens are safe enough to be used even on a baby’s sensitive skin. You can purchase organic sunscreens from your local health food stores.
A good way to recognize if the sunscreen you are planning to purchase is organic or not, is by spending some time reading the product label. An organic sunscreen will contain a variety of nature derived ingredients. If you are a DIY person you can even make your own organic sunscreen at home.
Marie Veronique Organics Creme de Jour Tinted SPF 30, Soleo Organics Sunscreen Organic chemical free sunscreen SPF 30+, Badger Sunscreen SPF30 and Desert Essence Organics Age Reversal Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 are a few reputable brands of organic sunscreens that you can try out.

Medium Length Hair Styles – Get A New Look Toda

Posted

This hair style is very popular among many women who want to be able to style their hair in different ways without the worries of having long hair. Medium length hair styles can vary in so many ways.
One can have straight, wavy or even curly hair with each type of hair resulting in an individualized look for the wearer. Medium length hair styles can be given the layered look by stylists. Women can then choose to tie it up in a slick updo, not much different from how celebrity Jennifer Lopez wore her hair at the 2009 Golden Globe Awards.
For those who want to add more character to their hair styles, a medium length hair style with the addition of some bangs can give you the look that you may have been searching for. Bangs can either be straight, long or asymmetrical. Some stylists even style bangs to move with medium length hair styles.
But before getting a pair of scissors to give yourself some bangs, go to your hair professional and ask about which one will work well with the shape of your face, better yet, have them give you a medium length hair style with some bangs that would surely compliment your face. This safe and less of a bother hair style is so versatile that you wouldn’t run out of ideas on how to style your hair for different occasions.
Some of the other more popular medium length hair styles include the following. Curly hair can look good even when cut close to the ears. You can have your hairdresser cut your hair short and style your curls to make it look sexy, bangs can also be added to the style to give it a more sophisticated look. This style is less bothersome as you only need your fingers to take out the tangles and style your hair.

Body and Scalp Acne – Truly Embarrassing Problems and Remedies

If you are suffering from acne of the scalp and the body it is a painful situation and embarrassing as well.

I have been through scalp acne and I can tell you it causes such uneasiness and such discomfort that you wish to go bald. It is always the best thing to go to a doctor. When you see the whole area has been infected, you have to immediately go for a professional help.
In medical terms the condition is called as the Scalp Folliculitis. Scalp acne can happen for various reasons. This is an allergy that occurs in the scalp and it can happen from the hair products that are used. This acne can be referred to the genetic conditions also. You can also change the conditioner that you have been using for the scalp.
Have you heard of the apple tree oil? Well I got to hear of it very recently when I read it has been a prescribed medicine over the years on acne and also to prevent the future breakouts and infection of acne. There are some hair products that have the extract of the Green Tree which is a medicated shampoo as well as a natural alternative.
And in spite of all your precautions if you are still facing the problem, you have to see a doctor immediately. To get rid of the scarring washing with coconut water or applying calamine would help. You could be started on antibiotics in the form of medicines or the topical cream. You can use some prescription medicine or the cream for that purpose.

Plagued by Split End? How to Prevent, Protect & Repair Hair Damage

Posted

You probably see all sorts of shampoo or conditioner ads that claim to fix split ends, but let's start by acknowledging the fact that the only way to fix split ends is to cut them off. You can't mend split ends, but you can trim them away and give the hair a chance to grow out again under more favorable conditions.

Preventing Split Ends
On the other hand, you can prevent split ends to some extent by keeping your hair from drying out. The main causes of split ends are time and dryness. Drying and aging hair tends to become brittle and break: keeping it in good shape can hold split ends at bay longer than usual, so treating your hair with kindness is a good rule.

Ethnic Hair can be prone to more split ends
African American women often have a tougher time keeping the split ends away: their hair tends to be thinner and fragile, easily damaged. Keeping breakage to a minimum involves avoiding heat, permanent or straightening fluids and daily styling with irons or hair driers. Coloring hair weakens its structure and makes it even weaker, so that women with black hair who want to use colorants run the risk of thinning their hair or winding up with bald spots. African American hair demands extra gentle treatment and frequent conditioning with rich emollients such as shea butter or coconut oil. These natural remedies are also ideal for keeping the scalp healthy. Keeping Black hair in its natural state is healthiest—forget straighteners or colors and your hair will be stronger and shinier. Tight braids can also damage your hair and may even damage the roots, which can cause you to lose your hair in places, so keep it loose as possible. If you must color your hair, go for henna, which smoothes the hair shaft and deposits the color atop the hair instead of opening the cuticle and adding the color inside the hair. Henna doesn't last quite as long as chemically-based permanent colors, but it actually makes hair healthier when you use it: other colors make it weaker.

No forever solution to stop spilt ends for occurring
Eventually, all hair will develop split ends if it isn't cared for properly. Most hair experts recommend getting a trim every 6-8 weeks, so ends don't have a chance to dry out and split. The beauty of your hair really shows when it's shiny, glossy and thick. Keeping the tips trimmed is protection from further damage: split ends tend to work their way up the hair shaft as it sustains further damage over time. The solution to split ends is to act quickly: don't skip the trip to the salon, or get your hair stylist to teach you how to trim your own hair if you don't like to go in that often.

Breakage and Frizzy Hair Texture is Not from Split Ends!
Don't mistake frizzies for split ends. If your hair looks frumpy or frowsy, the ends might be just fine, but the hair shaft is roughed up from humidity in the air or dryness from harsh shampoos. If you've had your ends trimmed but still see a fuzzy halo around your hair, try using one of the new hair smoothing treatments. Usually consisting of a solution of dimethicone, these smoothers add a gloss to your hair that makes it shiny and more manageable. They don't really do anything to nourish or improve your hair, but they coat the hair the same way furniture polish makes your tables look shiny, and they wash out with each shampoo.

Beauty Tips For Teens

Posted

Let's face it. Being a teenager means being self-conscious, pretty much all the time. and, if you're a teenage girl, especially one whose skin, complexion or overall appearance is not "picture perfect" that can make the whole experience even worse. (This of course, can apply to any girl, depending on her frame of mind). Fortunately, here are some beauty tips that can come to the rescue for your face and skin type, so you can meet the world refreshed and ready, as well as some make-up and safety tips for when you're going out and having fun. All this said, always remember that true self improvement comes from within, and that while looking good on the outside, in terms of being presentable and attractive, are always find a strive for, but never define who you are.

Facial Skin Care Tip
Some people can confuse the physical transformation that comes with putting makeup on, with a sort of personal transformation, but again this is not the truth. When you feel beautiful inside, you will be more attractive to others on the outside. Makeup will not do it.

--Editors Tip ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Get Clearer Skin By Using the Right Skin Care Products for Acne Prone Skin
Clear SkinIf you're struggling with serious acne, get serious about your skin care strategy. Ordinary skin care products contain hydrogen peroxide, alcohols and plenty of fragrances (such as camphor or eucalyptus) that can irritate skin without putting a stop to bad breakouts. Acne can do more than impact your social life: it impacts self confidence. Bad acne can also lead to scarring (but if you already have acne scars, take heart; you can have them erased by laser resurfacing).

For real acne-prone skin care, use a product that's dermatologist created and tested; serious skin care for solving big problems like acne. The local drugstore's toner or acne fighter lotion probably contains alcohol, added fragrance and color and all sorts of things that will irritate skin without truly treating it. Fortunately, there are some real acne medicines that work

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From a practical physical standpoint, it is a good idea to remember that your skin needs to breathe. It is important to keep your skin as natural as possible- so try and keep makeup is minimal as is necessary and keep going, "all-out" for special occasions like parties.

Mirrors with good high quality lighting are great for examining your skin – although the first time you take a really good close look it can be a loud and shocking personal alarm to take some fast action, if you’ve neglected your skin. Beauty tip no 1 is to take a close look at it at home and ensure before you do that you’ve done a good job of makeup removal. This can especially be true in the summer, when the excess heat can cause problems faster, if you've left any makeup on your face for an extended period of time.

If your face is usually dry: Before you shower, apply a rich moisturizing mask or thick layer of moisturizer. The moist heat helps the mask plump up fine lines and creases temporarily. Apply a heavy layer of petroleum jelly to lips. At the end of the shower, use a warm damp washcloth to gently massage off both treatments, and then use a naturally made loofah to bring out a natural, healthy glow.

If your skin is naturally oily: Use toner before and after you get out of the shower, before, to clean off any oil that has risen to the surface during sleep, and again when you get out to take off any oil that has surfaced from the heat of the water.

If you have combination skin, only apply toner masks to the "T" area on your face, you could cause your cheeks to redden from applying toner there.
Dab yellow or skin-tone concealer on blue under eye circles. Stay away from lighter skin tone or white cover-ups. You can get free samples to try out in the privacy of your own home and samples are available for all skin tones.
Hair Care Tip
Dwayne, the African-American Culture contributing hair care expert, shares a secret beauty tip on how to prevent hair breakage while you sleep for all hair types, not just black women. Spilt ends have a tendency to get caught on the cotton and your tossing and turning will actually pull the caught pieces out of your head. So little by little, if you were wearing a cotton scarf to protect your hair while you sleep, you may actually be making it worse! It is highly recommended that you either wrap your hair up in silk or satin scarves at night or sleep on silk or satin pillows.

Indian Ethnics.com, has some good Indian (and non Indian as well) beauty tips on make up and skin care for teens. Here's the secret: If you are getting ready for a night on the town, choose a foundation closest to your natural skin tone, and foundation that is to be sure to blend it past your jaw line and across your neck (so it doesn't look as though you're wearing a mask). When it comes to eye shadow, choose a color slightly darker than your eyes.

Beauty Accessory Ideas
As far as accessories, a hot gift idea for a teen with a low-budget can be decorative jewelry, that doesn't necessarily have to come from Tiffany's. There are plenty of places online where you can shop for attractive and very reasonably priced items. Believe it or not, the way you move can actually be one of the most attractive or off-putting features you have. When you can move more gracefully and assuredly, that puts out an air of confidence which will make a difference to matter what it is you are or are wearing. Consider taking a dance lesson, enrolling in some sort of after school sport like gymnastics where you can learn more control over your balance and agility. You may think, what does this have to do with looking good when I'm going out to a party- but once you've got grace and agility in what is referred to as your "muscle memory", it will make a difference in all areas of your life.

And lastly, I always think, especially if going out at night, that taking the time to buy pepper spray, even if it's a teeny little canister that goes on a keychain can be one of the best "accessories" you can own for your own and your loved one's peace of mind. It's probably one of those things you'll never need to use that you'll always be happy you have.

Good Foot Massage

Posted

Give your feet a break with a good foot massage. You can do it with a partner or try the massage on your own.

* Wash the feet thoroughly and adopt a comfortable position that allows you to reach all parts of your foot.
* Anoint the feet with a skin lotion for lubrication when carrying out the massage.
* Massage the area between your toes using your fingers and your thumb. Wiggle and wriggle the toes and pull each one gently. Then move to the four metatarsal bones that run along the top and middle of the foot. Moving from the base of your toes to just above your ankle, slowly massage one area at a time.
* The soles. When you are working on yourself, this is easiest with your foot propped on the opposite knee, with a towel underneath to protect your clothing from cream. Using your thumbs, make small, circular motions that cover the entire surface of the bottom of your foot, moving from the base of your toes toward your heel. Keep the pressure of the circles steady and even. Use a bit more firmness on your heels as the skin there is tougher.
* Still working the sole, use your pointer and middle fingers to make crosswise movements, back and forth, from the heel to the ball of your foot.
* Taking a firm hold of the foot, raising it, and massaging the back of the calf with the free hand is effective in relieving muscle stress in that leg.
* With one hand holding the heel and the other enfolding the toes, rotate the foot, without causing pain, to gain an overall sense of relaxation, ease and well-being.

After the massage, wipe the soles of your feet with a towel to prevent your feet from being slippery. Slip into some wonderful heavy cotton socks or favorite (clean) slippers.

By Cathryn D'Imperio

High-stress jobs, multiple roles and endless personal obligations may leave just about anyone torn and tattered. Renew body mind and spirit with simple relaxation techniques that require only minimal time and energy investment.

yoga meditationIn addition to relieving a degree of ones current stress load, practicing relaxation techniques on a regular basis has also been shown to promote overall healthier living, better mental condition and fewer incidences of heart attacks, strokes and repeat heart attacks.

Yoga

With strong focus on deep, rhythmic breathing, yoga has become a popular form of alternative healing. Allowing participants to clear their minds and focus on personal goals and calming energies, yoga also aids in the bodys flexibility and overall tone. Deep breaths coupled with yoga stretches and poses assist in renewal of the body, mind and soul. Even if practiced for only a few moments, yoga can positively impact a persons outlook, guiding him or her effectively toward goals and aspirations.

As an extremely popular activity in recent times, yoga classes are offered at many colleges, health and fitness centers and gyms. For those wishing to learn yoga on their own, countless books and videos are available for that very purpose. Gathering with a group of friends may motivate a first-time yoga participant to make a regular routine of yoga, even if only for a few moments every couple of days.

Meditation

By exercising and harnessing the power of the mind, one can truly find mental freedom and escape from stress. Meditation combines a quiet location with a comfortable position, a focus item or idea and a perfect equilibrium between awareness and relaxation. Different posture and positions may be used for those who wish to become more experienced in meditation. When practiced regularly, meditation can positively merge ones mental, physical and emotional worlds.

Meditation practice does not have to be anything fancy or highly technical. By simply sitting in a comfortable position in a private location, one can use visualization with positive imagery. Repetition of a calming word, phrase or sound, such as peace, may aid in ones ability to focus. Participants may choose whether they wish to meditate with open or closed eyes.

Massage

Yoga, meditation and massage are all wonderful techniques to restore peace and balance within the body, mind and spirit. The power of the mind can be a truly amazing thing allowing us to dream, believe, conquer and become those things we most desire. Practice relaxation techniques on a regular basis in order to maintain a healthy spirit and calm, tranquil mood.

Grown-Up Girls Stress-Busting Slumber Party

Posted

Remember when your biggest problem was choosing a prom gown or letting the boy you liked know how you felt? Ahh, those were the days. Problems seemed so great, yet in the grand scheme of things, you really only needed a chocolate milkshake or a pint of Ben & Jerrys to assuage your every concern.

Now, with faster-paced lives, more personal and familial responsibilities and even greater problems, sometimes it takes more than a chocolate milkshake or even a gallon of Chunky Monkey could tackle.

For an easier take on life, women truly need to make time for their families, their friends, and essentially, themselves. The key to a successful balance is making time for these entities separately, resulting in a happier life with reduced stressors and a more relaxed outlook.

Family time and personal time can be arranged on a day-to-day basis, with special family meals and movie time, game time or special trips and outings together on the weekends. Bubble baths, naps, scrap-booking, baking and shopping provide nice options for alone time, while activities like yoga, Pilates and general exercise routines can be as good for the soul as they are for the body.

To complete the balance, women should keep in touch with friends and plan get-togethers at least once a year, but preferably more often. As people grow up and move on with their lives, it is common that many friends may find themselves miles and miles, and even states apart. This may call for an old-school approach to the common problems of womanhood.

So who says youre too old for sleepovers once youre married, anyway? Toss your cares to the wind and call up all your old friends and all your new ones in an effort to get the gang together for a night of relaxation, reminiscence and rejuvenation. Send the kids to your parents or your husbands parents house (or failing that, to their friends house for a sleepover!). Dash out to the supermarket to pick up a few key snacks and ask each friend to bring a goodie to eat and a goodie for the soul.

Acceptable edible goodies for slumber party:

* Baked goods especially cookies, cupcakes, candy, pastries, etc.
* Cheese and crackers
* Veggie tray
* Shrimp cocktail or other hors doeuvres
* Wine or other beverage of choice
* Pizza
* Tea and hot cocoa
* Other delicious foods

While it is nice to eat healthy and practice a diet all the time, sometimes a little snack here or there might not hurt. Be sure to offer both junk food and healthy food options in case your guests have just begun a new diet. Faithful standbys like ice cream and frozen treats may best be provided by the hostess.

Goodies for the soul may include:

* Photos and scrapbooks from your earlier days
* Home videos and especially videos showing each other
* Favorite movies, especially chick flicks
* Craft projects like knitting and crocheting
* Pedicure kits
* Manicure kits and plenty of nail polish
* Facials
* Aromatherapy
* Music
* Girly magazines
* Board games and other fun activities

During your girls slumber party, relax and revisit your past. Spend time with your girlfriends the women who got you through all those tough times and influenced you enough to have even a slight impact on who you are today.

Take the time to go through photographs from years gone by. Enjoy every moment and take new photographs so you have more memories to hold dear. Watch an old favorite movie and reminisce about the days in college when the flick was your souls medicine during every bad day or every break-up. Indulge in sweet temptations, even if this is the last time before you start your diet.

Dealing with food addiction

Posted

Modern societys image of the beautiful woman is someone who fits a certain size, usually size 6 or smaller, someone with a certain kind of bone structure, someone with a certain kind of face. This image is glorified in many, many fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Elle and Vogue. This image is, unfortunately, not true for the average woman, who has to struggle with size 8 or bigger, who does not have the same delicate bone structure, who does not have the particular kind of face that one would see on a model.

Not all of us are born to fit such an image of what is considered the beautiful woman. In fact, very, very few fit that given image at all. And yet, there are so many women out there who try desperately to fit that image, who will try all means available to them and that which they can afford just to be able to fit that image. Sadly, despite whatever measure we might take, some of us are just that: fat.

If we are not genetically predisposed to being overweight, there are other reasons why we are carrying around extra flesh on our bodies. It could be because we are addicted to food. And while this is not a general or a blanket statement on why women are fat, it could be because we basically have issues with ourselves that we cannot face, and we hide behind the comfort that food brings us whenever we had to deal with something that we find truly stressful.

Examine yourself. Are you fat because your genes have dictated that your body should be formed that way? Are you fat because you are lazy? Or are you fat because you cannot stop eating?

That character from the Austin Powers series of movies, the one they have named Fat Bastard, captured it so poignantly with this line: I eat because I am unhappy, and I am unhappy because I eat. Is it that case for you too?

If you are one of us, one of those women who are afflicted with food addiction, the first step towards recovery always involves recognition. Recognize and admit to yourself that you have an issue that you need to deal with and that you are using food to cover up for the fear, the anxiety and the sadness that you feel whenever you are forced to face something you do not want to handle.

Once you have gotten a handle of the situation, the next step would be to determine what gives you so much stress and anxiety, enough to turn to the comfort of food. More often than not, it has something to do with self-image. If it is indeed the case, that your food addiction has something to do with self-image, then the next step would be to embrace what you are and accept that you cannot be what you are not.

Most importantly, do not take this journey of ridding yourself with food addiction alone. It is so very easy to fall back into the old pattern of bingeing after being upset with something if you are dealing with it alone. Seek help with a counselor or a support group. There are others like us, like you; you need not go through this all alone.

Give Your Face a Lift!

Want a truly revitalizing experience to start off your night? Facials do many wonderful things to refresh and rejuvenate your skin -so grab some great beauty products and get ready to give your tired skin a soft, smooth revolution!

Typical routine for facial cleansing, done twice daily (morning and night), includes washing, then toning (use astringent or a toner to maintain the proper pH balance), and finally moisturizing. Weekly routine is an enhanced process, with the following steps: steaming (fill a sink with hot water, drape a towel over your head and the sink, and relax for about 10 minutes), deep cleaning (exfoliate or use a powerful cream cleanser, like Noxzema), apply mask, toning, and finally moisturizing (apply moisturizer to only the dry or tight areas of your face).

Products that will be especially valuable to you include: Face Scrub (exfoliating face wash), Toner or Astringent, and a mud or clay-based masque. Gather as many girlies in the bathroom sink area as you can fit and get to work-Steam treatment is a great relaxant after a stressful day. Next, use the face scrub to fully exfoliate and remove dull skin gently but effectively, or simply deep clean your face with a cream cleanser such as Noxzema.

Rinse your face and proceed to the next step: apply a generous layer of the mud masque to your face, paying special attention to your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) as well as any other trouble areas. Mud masques are my savior the night before a big event, a date or a special occasionthe wonder of this treatment is that the masque will lift the oils from your skin and transform your face into a beautifully smooth and soft rendition of its former self! No more worries about red blemishes or oily patchesusually within two days of applying the mask. Finally, toner or astringent can be used, followed by moisturizer, both of which should be applied to the face and the neck with middle and ring fingers in circular motion. As you complete this routine on a regular basis, your skin should become flawless and radiant!

Spoiling Yourselves after a Long Day... Manicures and Pedicures

Worst case scenario: You let each other go wild with the colors and styles, take some pictures, and youve got loads of memories to laugh off forever!

How To Get A French Manicure

Posted

manicure photo STEP 1
It's essential to prepare your hands and nails before applying nail polish. First, exfoliate your hands by massaging them using a small amount of body scrub. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly. One of the main causes of chapped hands is not drying them properly after washing.

manicure photo STEP 2
File your nails. If they are brittle or tend to split, keep them flat across the top with smooth, rounded edges. When filing, move in one direction, from outer corner to centre-sawing movements can damage the nail plate. Choose a nail file with a fine surface that glides over the nail.

manicure photo STEP 3
Coat hands in a layer of sweet almond oil, to norish and soften, then wrap in a warm towel and relax for 15 minutes. Unwrap, and gently push back cuticles using a rubber hoof stick (available from most chemists). Never use cuticle clippers, as they can nick the skin. Rinse hands with warm water and dry thoroughly to remove any oil residue.

manicure photo STEP 4
Apply one coat of base coat over your entire nail and allow a couple of minutes to dry. This will help strengthen the nail. Some products also level fine ridges and imperfections, leaving a smooth surface to apply polish. There's a wide range of base coats to choose from.

manicure photo STEP 5
For a square look, paint a straight line across the tips; for a rounded appearance, follow the curve of the nail; and to get a pointed style, paint in from each side to the centre. Some manicure kits include sticky strips to use as a guide. when applying, lay your hand on a flat surface and keep the ball of your painting hand steady and keep the ball of your painting hand steady by resting it on the same surface. Leave to dry.

Finally, apply a coat of translucent shell-pink nail polish over the entire nail to seal the whitened tip and complete the look. Allow 10 minutes for it to dry. For extra shine and protection, apply a clear, glossy top coat.

A Quick Hand Treatment

Hands are the most visible parts of you, but they also take a lot of abuse. You use them in everyday activity, and yet, they are the ultimate accessory. You must give them the same attention you give your face.

* Soften your hands even while you do the dishes. Add a little almond oil (about a teaspoon) to dishwater. The water will soften rought skin while the oil seals the moisture.

* Slough off dead skin cells with a solution made of sea salt lemon. Brush it into hands with an old toothbrush. Do this twice a week to soften hands and remove discoloration.

* Wash hands thoroughly with warm water, then, using a coarse washcloth, rub briskly. While skin is slightly damp, apply a mixture of one teaspoon honey and one teaspoon olive oil. Place hands in small plastic bags, then in a pair of cotton gloves for thirty minutes. The heat helps the treatment penetrate.

* Warm a cup of milk in the microwave for thirty seconds (or until warm, but comfortable to the touch). Soak your hands for five minutes to strengthen nails and hydrate skin. Not only is milk loaded with lactic acid, a natural alpha hydroxy acid that gently exfoliates dead skin, but its high calcium content will strengthen fragile nails.

How to achieve and maintain a healthy head of beautiful hair. Hair SOS

Three main things are needed for a good-looking head of hair - haute hair - good health, the right attention to cleanliness, and caution when using cosmetic treatments.

1. Adequate Diet

Hair growth depends on an adequate diet. A widespread diet problem which causes loss of hair is iron deficiency Anaemia. The cause is too little iron in blood, brought on by a diet containing too little meat, eggs, cereals or peas and beans. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also needed to provide vitamin C, which enables the body to absorb iron.

2. Cutting the hair

Although cutting the hair is not essential to its well-being, it is easier to keep the scalp clean if the hair is kept reasonably short. Regular cutting does not make the hair grow strong or faster.

3. How hair can be damaged

Although scalp hair is hardy, and can withstand a lot of abuse, it can be damaged by too much or inexpertly applied perming, dyeing - Blonde to Brunette, bleaching and massage. The amount of beautying the hair can take varies from person to person. Occasionally the scalp is allergic to the dye and becomes inflamed and swollen. To prevent this occuring, the dye should be tested by applying it to a small area on the arm. If a patch of inflammation has developed, the dye must not be used on the hair.

Most people who bleach their hair do so with hydrogen peroxide. If the peroxide is repeatedly applied, it may make the hair brittle. Hair SOS If this happens the hair may turn rough, develop split ends, or become thinned or shortened.

Kiss Me Lips

Posted

The most kissable lips look? The same one that's pretty any time: your natural shade with a kick.

Step 1: Prep

Smooth lips with lip balm. Avoid slick products, such as Vaseline or anything else petroleum-based (they will make the lipstick slide off).
Instead, apply a waxy balm, such as Chapstick, and massage into lips with your figertips. Then let it sink in for a few minutes.

Step 2: Pick Your Stick

Grab one that lets lips show through, such as a sheer lipstick or light gloss.
Apply...LIPSTICK straight from the tube. Blend into lips and along your lip line with fingertip.
Apply LIP GLOSS with the wand or a lip brush. Smooth out with your fingertip.

Step 3: Blot

When you are finished applying color, lightly kiss the back of your hand. This will get rid of excess product without cutting down on the sheen. Then, gently smack your lips together to even out the color one last time. Pucker up!

Some of us have less perfect lips than others. But don't despair! There are plenty of tricks of the trade to help make your lips more balanced and beautiful. Some of the most effective solutions:

* The best lip color fixative? - A thin layer of Chapstick. The formula holds lip color like crazy as it heals and protects.

* Powder lips also gives lip color or gloss something to cling to for longer, smoother wear.

* For longer wear, blot lips after applying lipstick to set color and remove excess. Add a thin layer of loose or pressed powder, then apply color again.

* Turn down too much shine by holding a single-ply tissue to your lips and pressing a little loose powder through it - just enough will sift through the tissue to adhere to color and reduce the shine.

* Turn up the shine with a thin layer of clear lip gloss over lipstick or alone.

* For high-voltage shine and color, try a lip lacquer over lipstick or alone.

* For fuller, poutier lips, spotlight lip gloss right in the center of your mouth.

* Keep matte lip color from drying your lips - use a lip primer or lip color fixative before you apply the matte color.

* For evening special-effects, apply a sheer lip gloss in silver, gold or an iridescent shade over the lip color.

What you eat will reflect on the health of your nails, too.

* Lack of vitamin A and calcium causes dryness and brittleness.
* Lack of protein, folic acid and vitamin C causes hang nails.
* White bands across the nails are caused by protein deficiency.
* A lack of sufficient hydrochloric acid can cause splitting nails.
* Insufficient intake or vitamin B12 can lead to excessive dryness, very rounded and curved ends and darkening of nails.
* Insufficient zinc can cause development of white spots on the nails.
* Cuts and cracks in the nails may indicate a need for more liquids.
* Red skin around your cuticles can be caused by poor metabolism of essential fatty acids.

Here are the guidelines to follow for improving the health of your nails:

* Eat a diet composed of 50% fruit and raw vegetables in order to supply necessary vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Eat foods rich in sulfur and silicon, such as broccoli, fish and onions. Include foods rich in biotin such as soy, brewers yeast and whole grains.

Theres never been a better time to renew and revamp your image. For a fun, flirty and attractive look that takes only a few moments to an hour to achieve, make a conscious effort to keep your nails in tip-top shape with new nail designs this season.

Short and metallic

Metallics are all the rage this year, and spring is a great season to sport a trendy new look. For the best impact, keep your nails trimmed relatively short and show off a splashy metallic look. Silvers, greens, blues, blacks anything sparkly goes.

Greens are especially hot this year, so apply a pretty green hue to get in on the latest color craze. Take an extra step toward creativity and find a color that matches your cars shiny coat!

French manicure

For a lovely feminine look, consider a French manicure. Beautiful pale pink nails with emphasized white tips accentuate your fingertips and complement any outfit, swimsuit or occasion. For a flawless manicure, head over to the salon and get your nails done, either naturally or with acrylics.

If you find yourself to be a little bit handy with nail polish or crafty in general, stop at your local drugstore or beauty shop and look for a French manicure kit. Many kits include little sticky strips to help you section off which parts of your nails will receive the white tips and white parts will remain pink. French manicures are still in style and many men find them sexy. Why not go for the girlie look?

Pretty and pastel nail art

Its likely that pastel colors will never go out of style. Find a shimmery lilac or lavender, a dainty pink, peach or rose, or try other pale pastel shades.

For an extra creative touch, apply an iridescent, glossy, pearly or glittery topcoat. Or, for a modern twist, introduce a delicate white on your tips and enjoy a unique new French manicure.

Traditional nail design

For a no-fail look no matter what your personal style or wardrobe options, consider a standby pink or red. Softer pinks and reds seem to be making a strong appearance on nails, blending nicely with all skin tones, nail shapes and clothing color choices.

Reds and pinks tend to be classics in the world of lips and fingertips, so even if you cant find a trendy look for your nails, you can stay in style with a tried-and-true color scheme. To get a little daring, gradually tone down your colors until you are moving from fire engine red and lollypop pink to paler shades of carnation, brick and maybe even peach!

If you cant settle on a particular color, pattern or style for your nails, take a trip to the store and browse the shelves for ideas. You may spot a must-have color or an adorable set of adornments and decals. Get a little wild, a little crazy and a little unique this season. Dont be afraid to express yourself and remember that healthy nails are important!

Tips to Keep Your Nails Strong and Sexy

by Kathryn D'Imperio

When you write down your shopping list, as you punch a phone number into your cell, while you wash dishes, do the ironing, clean the windows, or do one hundred other things that women do on any given day do you take notice of the condition of your nails?

Our hands are such an integral part of our daily lives, and constantly, we risk their health and strength, often without even noticing, because of the hustle and bustle of our day-to-day activities. Take a few moments each day, or at least a few times a week, to monitor the condition of your nails the color, the texture, the appearance of ridges or white marks.

Make a greater effort to take good care of your nails, and you will be thrilled with the way they complement your wardrobe and your own personal style. Consider the following tips as a way to enhance the health and quality of your nails.

Great, Healthy Nails

Apply speed-dry nail polish when time is of the essence.

Drink lots of water. Keep your body hydrated everyday to maintain healthy nails.

Fortify your diet with FDA approved vitamins or supplements. Your fingernails count on you to be responsible with your health and your diet. Unless instructed otherwise by your physician, increase your daily doses of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, folic acid, protein, Vitamin B12, and zinc.

Touch up your manicure on a daily basis to prevent chips and cracks.

Your nails depend on you to maintain a healthy diet. Take in lots.

Nail polish tips:

Finish with a clear topcoat to add gloss and sheen.

Start with a base coat to strengthen and protect the nails.

Store nail polish in the refrigerator to maintain a smooth consistency.

Try not to store nail polish in a room that becomes cold. The nail polish bottles may break without warning, leaving you with a big mess.

To avoid breaking nails or brittle nails:

Avoid using your nails as tools. This means no picking, scratching, digging, pinching, etc. You know who you are!

Increase the amount of calcium in your diet.

Use products containing alcohol, especially perfumed lotions, sparingly. These items can make nails prone to breaking.

Wear rubber gloves when you do chores that involve continual submersion in water or contact with harsh detergents or chemicals.

1. CLEANSING

Women who wear makeup - see Uma Thurman - should carry out a routine of cleansing, toning and moisturing turn back the clock each evening, as well as washing the face in the morning. 5 Minute Makeover Cleansing will remove old make-up and the grime and grease that have been accumulated during the day.

* Remove mascara Lashes Unlimited with a cotton bud dipped in eye-dipped in eye-cleansing lotion. To make the job easier keep your hair off your face.
* Remove the eyeshadow - Artistic Palletes - by gently wiping it off with a pad of clean cotton wool moistened with eye-cleansing lotion.
* Pour a little face cleansing cream into the palm of one hand and dab it generously over the nose, chin, forehead and cheeks --- using two fingers of the other hand.
* Massage the cream into the skin, starting under the throat, using a gentle upward motion.
* Continue massaging the cream up to the forehead, using the fingertips.
* Gently massage the cream from the eyes to the nose.
* Massage cream back over the chin, which is particularly prone to blackheads. Use the index finger.
* Remove the cream from the face with tissue pads in each hand. Start under the chin and work over the cheeks and on to the forehead

2. TONING

Toners remove all traces of dirt, make-up or cleanser that remain after cleansing.

* Immediately after cleansing apply toner to the forehead and cheeks on a pad of corron wool

* Using the tips ofthe fingers, dot moisturising cream lightly all over the face.
* Press the fingers of both hands into the centre of the forehead and work the cream slowly outwards. Pat the cream gentlyaround the eyes.

* Massage the cream over the throat with alternating hands, using upward strokes from collar-bone to chin.

Natural Beauty - Enhance The Looks You Have

Visualization

You need to visualize the specific changes if you truly want to change your look. What will any improvements you make look like? See yourself with a streamlined body, healthier hair, clearer skin, majestic posture. These changes are realistic and attainable. Stay away from goals you'll never reach.
Don't compare yourself with someone you've seen on the TV or movie screen or on the cover of a magazine. Accept your uniqueness and capitalize on it.

Mirrors Boost Attitude

The quickest attitude adjustment is through reflection. Women who have low self esteem often avoid mirrors like the plague. However, mirrors can become a big ally.
Mirrors can tell you how you're progressing, in those little ways that may not be noticeable to the casual eye. It is the ultimate objective eye.

Do Everything Better

The way you use your beauty products will make all the difference in results.
For instance, try to duplicate what you see and feel your hair is shampooed at a salon. The product is always handled, never poured directly on hair.
Add a massage to your scalp when washing. While rinsing, lift your hair away from your scalp for about two minutes until it squeaks.

Discover The Virtues of Vanity

Confident women enjoy experimenting as a way of relieving stress and boost morale. Women who care about how they look are fascinating to watch, and teach us about taste and glamour. Vanity is a positive virtue, allowing us to fix our heads as well as our looks.

Look Pretty Amazing

Don't worry about looking pretty. Look pretty amazing show the world you care about yourself. Real beauty celebrates individuality. Rather than running around looking for beauty in pricey external products, discover within yourself. Make the most of what you have. You'll learn to like yourself and that will spark a light within.

Do One Thing For Yourself Everyday

Make yourself do it. It's the ultimate act of self-respect. Soak in the bubble bath or read an inspiring book. These little pleasures allow you to feel special. You can fake it if you, until you actually feel deserving of it. Whatever you choose, follow the action by writing down waht you did and how it made you feel. Make it your own "attitude file". Include stories, quotes from friends and photographs that have made you feel good about yourself.

Project Beauty

Feel good, feel pretty and that's just what the world will see. If you feel ugly, that's what the people will see. Try to look as good as you can. There are ways to live in beauty without being obsessive about it.

Find Supportive Friends

What people say, whether intentional or not, make us feel good or bad about ourselves. Look for people who make you feel good when you're down. This person will give you compliment. If you've done something different or if you're wearing something new, they will notice it. Keep this compliments and they will build your self esteem.

Listen To Your Inner Voice

Each of us has a voice inside our head that will give us advice. This is like a therapist. It will guide us in the right direction. It will calm us down, cheer us up and even help us figure out why we're overeating or not bothering to iron our clothes. The problem is that we often don't take time we need to hear this important information. Schedule some quiet time in a leisurely bath or walk, or even while putting on your makeup. Treat this intuition as an inner cheering section.

Take A Break

At least twice a day, set aside five minutes to recheck your make-up, hair, posture and clothing. No matter how impeccably you started out your day, a touch is both necessary and warranted. Take some deep breaths to renew and restore your appearance.

21st Century Superwoman

Posted

This day of “equal opportunities” and “gender empowerment”, etc, the woman goes to work because it has become necessity to have two incomes in order to survive in these days of spiraling prices and runway inflation. Women are joining the growing new breed of workaholics, a title once bagged by hard-driving ambitious men. Women may stats off enjoying their job initially and get on the treadmill towards success. Then they realize it is like riding a tiger and if they don’t get off the work treadmill of long hours, the personal and social cost may be higher than that of any man.

An obsessive worker may be loved by her boss, admired by her colleagues and inspire awe in subordinates. This is often achieved at a staggering personal cost when work becomes all – consuming. Very often psychologists have determined that a man’s sense of self-worth is more tied to his work while a woman places higher priority on relationships i.e. security and family. Some women may be masculine in way of thinking but end up paying a much higher price. Male workaholics fit easily into the familiar role of the breadwinner. Women workaholics, on the other hand, go against the accepted image of a devoted wife, loving mother, and a dutiful daughter and therefore to the detriment of her social status – the role of the “nari” or the women, that has been formatted by history and tradition – set on a pedestal with a steep drop!

Who are the demon workers among the female ranks? Not the stereotype battleaxes that have fought their way into the inner realms of up management, and have deep scars to prove it. The “witches of fast track” are likely to be the young educated young women who are eager to make their mark – the female yuppies paying for their newfound independence that their mothers could not achieve. Or the older woman in their 30s and 40s who find it difficult to shrug off old habits, and is secretly afraid of being side-tracked or even laid off must, at all costs, hang on their niche.

There is a fuzzy line between hardworking and being a workaholic. A hard worker will put her job in perspective and strive for a balance. A workaholic, may start off as a hard worker, and then, lose track! She doesn’t slow down even when there is a lull. Workaholics start from mild 10-hour workdays and reach to serious, 14-16 hours workdays! Achievement driven, they strive for exceptional results, thrive on challenge, and demand control and lose her friends and family in the process. I suppose it is difficult when the workplace is more exiting than the home!

Sings pointing to workaholics differ little between the sexes, but there are underlying reasons peculiar only to women that sets them apart. An Asian women brought up to be supportive, accept extra work readily (they feel guilty in saying “no” because of being thought unprofessional or uncooperative and thus demeaning her status in the eyes of her colleagues) normally do not refuse work so as not to appear weak. Lacking the overriding ego her male counterpart, some women tend to be insecure about their abilities and need to prove their worth by trying harder higher, fuelled by the morbid fear of being typecast as the “typical” female. A stigma most women must bear like a cross!

With family and personal lives in a state of perpetual limbo, some women may have to re-think the end result and whether it is worth it. Having to “do” a job is perhaps a better option for some women rather than achieve greatness, which would allocate “ambition” to only the men. A driven woman would draw the wrath of her male colleagues – especially if she achieves position that they cannot.

Women who have either backing or collateral may achieve some heights in business or industry. She will have to work doubly hard to prove that she is worth the backing. By this argument, most men never achieve their goals but that is okay. Failures are an every-day thing but a women’s failure in a man’s world will spell death to her very soul! “After all, a women…”, and the smirking will go on. To avoid such condescension, a woman burns herself out to prove that she is perfect or on the other hand, takes the easy way out – which is to fit into the “typical” role of being “someone” one works with. Never – the boss!

Even banks hesitate to give a woman a sizeable business loan without a male signature backing her – either a husband’s or a father’s – it is in the application form! What if neither is available? Kiss bank loans goodbye! It does not matter that the female applicant has years of business experience or has a degree from Harvard. No man – no money…no Business! Micro-credit –OK! So, what should a woman do? Always but always, try to prove that she may be better than her male co-worker even though the society does not think so. Her excellent educational background or her record as a dynamic entrepreneur is mostly disregarded when funding is required. She is often tied to her fate of being born the ward of her father, then her husband and then her son’s – even today – even in the 21st century. Who will toll the bell?

Women tend to be perfectionists far more than men. She not only drives herself hard but also her subordinates. With burgeoning job market for women, as a result of mushrooming companies and globalization, faster telecommunications and general economic growth within the century, women have shot into the executive positions without learning the ropes. Women, have tougher time, as they learn on the job and spend more problems of the trade. Wanting not to look naïve, the woman works doubly hard to keep up with the men and be taken seriously. Especially in the male dominated workforce of Bangladesh.

The wedding day is a time in a girl’s life when she dreams of
shining like a star and dazzling everyone with her breathtaking
beauty. Tireless efforts spanning months together go into at-
taining that‘oh-so-perfect’ look for the D-day. But, while the
bride-to-be is busy scrubbing her face with that mudpack for a
rosy glow, her hands and feet are often crying for attention.
Hands and feet seldom receive the same care and treatment as the rest of the body. The bride should therefore, go for a beauty
care regime that looks beyond those once-a-month manicures and
pedicures.

Manicure Magic
Irregular shape of nails with cracking skin on the hands presents a shoddy image of the bride. Imagine flinching in embarrassment when asked by the priest to bring forward your hands during the wedding ceremony because they don’t shine as much as your face. Dr Apratim Goel, official dermatologist for L’Oreal Paris, recommends skin polishing once in two weeks. Apart from this, regular application of hand cream and sunscreen with moisturizer during the day is a must.
A SPA manicure with some therapy at the Christian Georgio SPA, Grand Hyatt, Mumbai, can also help rejuvenate and revitalise the skin and remove tan. It includes ‘reflexology’, done with special hot and cold stones on pressure points to improve blood circulation, and has a relaxing, detoxifying and de-stressing result.

Best food forward
No matter how regular she is with her pedicure appointments, the
feet are bound to develop cracks and coarseness over time. after
all it’s your wedding and you are spending maximum time shopping,
out in the sun and dust. AT night, before retiring, soak you feet
in hot water mixed with coarse salt, almond oil and shampoo for
about 20 minutes. This helps to soften the dead skin on the heels.
Rub the heels gently with a pumice stone or a heel scrubber, in
order to remove the dead cells. Avoid metal scrubbers. After
washing the feet, massage with a good cream, rubbing it into the
skin. Apply the cream generously on the heels. Bandage the heels
with a clean cloth, or cotton wool and surgical gauze and wear
cotton socks to bed. This way, the cream will remain on the heels
and not get smeared on to the bedclothes.
Apart from this DR. Goel from L’Oreal also recommend! different
pedicures like dry, wet, French, paraffin, ho oil, AHA etc.

Tale of the Nail
Marion clocheau, SPA manager at jean claude Biguine advocates the Biguine SPA manicure, “I would strongly suggest the Biguine Bio SPA manicure. This season indulge your nails and go for dark glamorous colours, metallic sheens and high glossy finishes that perfectly complimen jewel tones, moody greys, browns and lush blue-reds that are in fashion right now”.
A common problem that women often tend to face is that of nails turning yellow. To get rid of the yellowish tint on nails, Shahnaz Husain suggests that you scrape the surface of the nail with the finest-grain side of an emery board, so that the nail is not damaged and then use a UV-resistant or clear polish for protection. It will also add shine to dull nails. The nails can also be “buffed” to remove the yellow tinge and add shine. This is usually done with a piece of chamois leather by rubbing it gently. You can add backing soda to water and soak your fingers in the concoction daily for 15 minutes. Pieces of lemon can be rubbed on the nails, or dilute lemon juice with water and soak your hands in it for 10 minutes everyday.

The Bling and the Ring
The D-day is here! It is the day of the ring exchange ceremony and you have been so engrossed in shopping and visiting the boutique that it never occurred to you that your hands require singular attention for this special day. Shahnaz Husain suggests The Diamond Skin Polish, as it includes all treatments that make skin soft and radiant. The paraffin wax treatment, she adds, also brings softness and shine, as do the diamond products, which contain actual diamond dust, along with other herbal extracts and oils that can bring that special glow to your hands.
Or, just in case you do have time before D-day and are wondering which treatment will ensure those stunning looking hands then we have the answer. A little extra care of your hands will pay in the long run.
Shobha Sehgal, head of business, Day spa and beauty zone, VLCC advises “starting six weeks prior to the big day, massage the hands once a week with olive oil and a little table salt added to it. You can even go in for nail extension, subtle nail art or a paraffin or aroma manicure.”

Crack Attack
The winters can be particularly rough on your skin leaving it with a dry and lusterless feel. Special skin care is therefore, needed for all you winter brides. According to Shobha from VLCC, well-moisturised hands and feet with good quality hand cream helps keep dryness at bay. Washing them with lukewarm and applying glycerin, rose water and lemon juice before going to bed can also treat chapped hands.
Priya Kumar, beauty expert, Bella Madonna, recommends a rather appetising treatment for the winter chill-a chocolate manicure and pedicure. “A chocolate manicure and pedicure is a must for winters. Apply moisturiser twice daily. Try and keep your feet out of hard water”, she says.

Before and After
“One of the most important aspects of pre-wedding beauty care is to ensure that your hands and feet are receiving the same amount of attention as the rest of your body”, says from Biguring adding, “soaking your hands in warm oil is a luxurious and moisturising exercise. The skin on your hands will benefit from being gently exfoliated once a week. You could use your normal face scrub or a product specific one for this purpose”. The best treatment for hands and feet care according to Christian Georgio, Grand Hyatt Mumbai would be a professional SPA manicure and pedicure with stone therapy, complimented by some specific home care routines. Three months of three to six treatments of the royal, paraffin or SPA manicure/pedicure is sufficient time thoroughly improve the growth and texture of the nails.
The stunning image that the bride acquires during the time of her wedding should not be discarded later. Since the new roles adopted by the newlywed bride will keep her even busier, the least she can do is continue with her daily cleansing, moisturising and toning routine, suggests Priya from Bella Madonna.
A beautiful you are not just about a pretty face and smart dressing. It is also about actively caring for the most active parts of your body, your hands and feet. Well-groomed hands and feet go a long way in boosting a bride’s confidence and adding to that ultimate chic look.

Do It Yourself
 It is suggested that every bride-to-be should go in for a basic pedicure every two weeks. Feet dipped in warm water with a little shampoo and vegetable oil added to it, provides a good starting point. After soaking the feet for 10-15 minutes, rub them (especially soles) with a pumice stone. This is the time to clean the nails and remove all old nail polishes.
 As you prepare for the wedding day, be careful about biting or
